PRESERVE THE PRESERVE!

Calling all Nature and climbing enthusiasts...

The Moss Rock Preserve is one of the most unique and beautiful natural preserves in the United States. Home to acres of hardwood forest, the Preserve is the last substantial refuge for local wildlife. But The Preserve is much more than a sanctuary. The Preserve contains some of the best climbing in the Southeast, debatably one of the oldest known rock formations in the world, as well as isolated species of moss unique to the Moss Rock boulders.
Because of this, the Preserve is of global environmental significance, and it is our job, as the surrounding community, to protect it for our generation and generations to come. Instead of protection, plans are to partially destroy the most unique area of Moss Rock by expanding the ironically named “Preserve” neighborhoods right up to, and around the Boulder Fields.
From the beginning of development, the City of Hoover has given the community the impression that “The Preserve” neighborhood would help ‘preserve’ this area, and that the Boulder Fields will remain completely protected and secluded. Now we can see that the actual plan is to allow for the development of the immediate area around the Boulder Fields for residential development and the adjacent area of the forest closer to the parking lot for commercial development of a "Town Center."

Both The City of Hoover and USSteel have reputations for environmental sensitivity at stake. We believe that they will seriously reconsider this plan if shown how many people dearly love and want to permanently protect the star of Moss Rock Preserve... the Boulder Fields.
Already, the surrounding woods have been partially stripped out, but this is only the beginning. Soon, the boulder fields will be someone’s backyard.
We have a responsibility, as caring citizens, to keep this from happening. We are petitioning USSteel and The City of Hoover to insure that there is a signicant buffer around the Boulder Fields and that roads and buildings are nowhere near. We need your support!  As a concerned member of this community, you have a powerful voice and can play a major role in altering this development.

You can help save the Moss Rock Preserve for our generation and generations to come. Sign the petition and come to show you care on Feb. 23 for Clean Up/Trail Day.
